We have received many queries from clients asking how they can safely wash their Löwenweiss boiled wool or felt slippers. As a result, we have produced a short guide for washing your Löwenweiss house shoes without damaging them.
All our slippers - excluding the cork-soled mules - can be machine or hand-washed, by following the simple instructions summarised below.
How to machine-wash the slippers
- First, remove any visible dirt or dust with a brush or vacuum cleaner.
- Then, set the wool or delicate programme on your machine, with the spin cycle at its lowest setting and at a maximum temperature of 30°C.
- Use a fabric softener-free mild detergent and fill the washing machine with other items (these do not necessarily need to be made of wool too). This will prevent the shoes from getting damaged by repeatedly hitting the drum.
- Once the washing cycle is complete, do not wring out the slippers; instead, re-shape them with your hands. Alternatively, you can wear them for a few seconds while they are still damp: they will adapt to the shape of your foot as a result.
- Let them air dry away from direct sunlight and heat sources (radiators, etc.). Do not put them in the tumble dryer.
How to hand-wash the slippers
- Remove any dirt with a brush or vacuum cleaner.
- Immerse the slippers in cold or lukewarm water with a mild detergent, and swish them gently around to ensure they are wet through.
- Leave them to soak for up to 10 minutes.
- Next, drain the sink and refill it with clean water; let the slippers soak for a further ten minutes or so. Alternatively, you can rinse them under running water for 2-3 minutes, until the water runs clear.
- Remove any excess water by gently pressing the slippers in several points, without wringing them out: this will prevent them from deforming.
- Re-shape the slippers whilst damp with your hands or put them on for a few seconds.
- Let them air dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Do not put them in the tumble dryer.
How to wash cork-soled slippers
The Belt, Root and Chalet cork-soled mule slippers and the Easy model with a removable insole cannot be machine-washed or hand-washed. To clean the above-indicated footwear models, simply follow the instructions below:
- Remove any dirt with a brush or vacuum cleaner.
- Wipe over your slippers with a wet cloth or a small brush with soft, damp nylon bristles. Do not use soap or detergent and avoid immersing them in water.
- Let them air dry away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
By taking these simple precautions, you can safely wash your slippers and prevent any felting or deformation.
